Burnout happens when chronic stress and overwork push you beyond your limits. It’s not just physical fatigue—it affects your emotions, your motivation, and even your ability to think clearly.
Some common signs of burnout include:
Burnout doesn’t happen overnight. It creeps in slowly, often disguised as “just being busy.” But if left unchecked, it can take a serious toll on your well-being.
For me, burnout felt like running on empty. I kept pushing myself—thinking if I just worked harder, things would get better. But instead, I felt more disconnected, unmotivated, and exhausted.
Maybe you’ve felt this too—staring at your computer screen for hours, unable to focus. Avoiding messages because even small conversations feel draining. Losing the energy to do things you once loved.
Burnout makes everything feel heavier. But the weight doesn’t have to be permanent.
So, where do you start?
1. Awareness: Recognising You’re Burned Out
The first step is acknowledging that something isn’t right. Instead of pushing through, allow yourself to pause.
Ask yourself:
- Am I constantly exhausted, even after resting?
- Do I feel emotionally drained or disconnected?
- Have I lost motivation for things that used to bring me joy?
If your answer is “yes,” your body and mind are sending you a message: It’s time to slow down.
2. Give Yourself Permission to Rest
Many of us feel guilty for taking breaks, as if rest is a luxury rather than a necessity. But recovery starts when you let yourself step back without guilt.
That might look like:
- Setting boundaries at work and saying no when needed
- Prioritising sleep and nutrition
- Taking time for activities that bring you peace—reading, walking, journaling, or simply doing nothing
Rest isn’t lazy. It’s essential.
3. Reconnect With Yourself
Burnout disconnects you from what matters. One way to begin healing is to reconnect—with yourself, your passions, and the things that make you feel alive.
- Spend time in nature
- Limit screen time and social media
- Reflect on what truly brings you joy, outside of work or responsibilities
Even small changes—like stepping outside for fresh air or setting aside 10 minutes to can make a difference.
One powerful tool for burnout recovery is Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), also known as tapping. EFT combines gentle tapping on acupressure points with mindful affirmations to release stress, negative emotions, and overwhelm.
When burnout builds up, we often carry tension in our bodies, tight shoulders, a heavy chest, or a racing mind. EFT helps:
By tapping on specific meridian points while acknowledging your feelings, you send signals to your nervous system that it’s safe to relax. Over time, this rewires your response to stress and helps you recover from burnout faster.
If you’re curious about how EFT tapping can support your burnout recovery, I’d love to guide you through it in a 1:1 session.
If you’re experiencing burnout, know this: You are not alone. Many of us have been there, and there is a way through.
The road to recovery isn’t about making drastic changes overnight. It’s about small, intentional steps giving yourself grace, choosing rest, and allowing yourself to heal.
Your well-being matters. You matter.
And you deserve to feel like yourself again.
If you’re ready to take the next step, I invite you to book a 1:1 EFT tapping session with me. Together, we’ll work through the stress, emotions, and limiting beliefs that keep you stuck in burnout.
